In April 2021, University of Iowa School of Social Work Professor Carol Coohey, MSW, PhD,  co-authored a study to develop and validate the Suicide Counseling Skills Inventory. The study was co-authored by former School of Social Work faculty member Keri Neblett and 2017 MSW graduate Sara Knox, and was published in the Crisis: The Journal of Crisis Intervention and Suicide Prevention. 

In August 2021 in the Crisis journal, Coohey published the study "Assessing Crisis Chat Visitors’ Capacity to Regulate Thoughts Related to Suicide," also co-authored by Neblett.
