The University of Iowa is home to Iowa's highest-ranked social work programs, according to U.S. News & World Report.  We are proud to be one of Iowa’s first social work programs and the only place in the state where you can get a PhD in social work.

The School of Social Work has offered Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)-accredited bachelor's and master's degree programs for decades, preparing generations of social workers. Earning your MSW can help fill a critical need. With 86 of Iowa's 99 counties experiencing a shortage of mental health professionals, licensed social workers are in high demand across the state. Iowa prepares students to meet that need with confidence. Between 2021-2024, more than 90% of Iowa MSW graduates who took the master's-level social work licensure exam passed on their first attempt.
