Add a Certificate in Resilience and Trauma-Informed Perspectives
The University of Iowa College of Education and School of Social Work jointly sponsor the interdisciplinary Certificate in Resilience and Trauma-Informed Perspectives.
The certificate is 18 semester hours of coursework – 6 hours of required coursework and 12 hours of electives from an approved list. A minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 2.0 is necessary in classes to be counted toward the certificate.
All University of Iowa undergraduate students are eligible to participate.
Preparing our students for their professional fields with a good understanding of trauma, trauma-sensitive responses, and trauma-informed prevention and care is a priority. We believe these skills will be indispensable to our graduates throughout their careers, and deeply beneficial to the individuals whom they serve.
Students interested in the RTIP certificate work with their primary academic advisor to declare the certificate. Once students declare the certificate, they will take the required and elective courses in whatever order they choose. The certificate coordinator is available to review and approve plans of study and collaborate with the student’s primary academic advisor in their major. The certificate coordinator can advise students on certificate completion, as needed. When a student completes an undergraduate degree and fulfills the requirements for the certificate, the University Registrar records completion of the program on the student's transcript.
Specific information on courses, curriculum, and requirements of the Certificate in Resilience and Trauma-Informed Perspectives can be found in the UI General Catalog.
