Biography

LaTasha J. DeLoach holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Iowa School of Social Work. In her position as the Director of the City of Iowa City Senior Center, she provides administrative leadership for staff that provide services to decrease social isolation for a diverse resident 50 plus. She ensures there is a place where older adults can continue learning, connecting, staying involved in the community, and maintain wellness. She was previously Community Projects Specialist at Johnson County Social Services and the Johnson County Disproportionate Minority Contact coordinator and the Community Partnerships for Protecting Children coordinator for 10 years.

She is alum of the 2018-2019 National Juvenile Justice Network Fellow in the Youth Leadership Institute. She has been the interim Chair of the State of Iowa Disproportionate Minority Contact Committee for the last five years and recently assisted with the develop of a subcommittee on Black Girls in Juvenile Justice. DeLoach advocates for families and older adults and is a fierce advocate for women and young women of color in Iowa.

She has been and continues to be a member of many local and statewide boards and committees including UI School of Social Work Professional Advisory Committee, Iowa Girls Justice Initiative Taskforce, Juvenile Justice Advisory Council, SMART on Juvenile Justice Leadership Team, Black Women Maternal Health Collective, University of Iowa Educational Leadership Advisory Committee, Iowa Maternal Quality Care Collaborative Committee Member, Community Advisory Board for State of Iowa Maternal Health Innovation Program, Johnson County Elderly Consortium Committee, Johnson County Taskforce on Aging, Community Foundation of Johnson County, UNESCO City of Literature Board.

DeLoach is the co-founder of several organizations and programs for women and girls of color in the State of Iowa including Sankofa Outreach Connection, Black Women’s Maternal Health Collective and The Sound of LaLa Land, a vocal production company.

DeLoach was vice president of the Iowa City Community School District Board of Directors from 2015 to 2017. She is also a committed community volunteer with extensive background in coordinating conferences, seminars, workshops, and events.
