Biography

Sharaine Webster (d. 2025) was a highly respected Clinical Assistant Professor and licensed mental health professional whose work has left a lasting impact on the state of Iowa, particularly within the Des Moines community. Before joining the faculty in a full-time capacity, she served as an adjunct instructor, where she was known for her dedication to student learning and her ability to connect classroom theory with real-world clinical practice.

Ms. Webster was the founder and owner of a private mental health therapy practice based in Des Moines, where she provided compassionate care to individuals from diverse backgrounds. She was widely recognized for her clinical expertise in mental health, addiction treatment, and sexual health and wellness. Her work extended to conducting mental health and substance use assessments for the Iowa Department of Corrections, contributing meaningfully to the state’s rehabilitative efforts.

Beyond her clinical and academic roles, Ms. Webster was deeply engaged in professional service and leadership across Iowa. She provided clinical trainings for practitioners and students, served on the Board of the Iowa Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), and represented Iowa as a delegate to the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT). She also contributed to the Iowa Board of Certification (IBC) through her work on its Training and Ethics Committees.

Her legacy continues through the many students, colleagues, and community members she mentored and served. Ms. Webster’s commitment to advancing mental health care, ethical practice, and professional education made her a vital force in the School of Social Work and the Des Moines community.
