Gerontological Society of America Program of Merit

Aging and gerontological social work field of practice

Gerontological social workers, also known as geriatric social workers, coordinate the care of older patients in a variety of settings, including hospitals, community health clinics, long-term and residential health care facilities, hospice settings, and outpatient/daytime health care centers.

End-of-life care field of practice

The coursework for the End-of-Life Care Certificate of Completion prepares students for practice in hospice programs and in hospital social work, in pediatric and adult oncology, palliative care units, and other social work settings, focused on meeting the medical, social, and spiritual needs of individuals at the end of life, their families, and bereaved individuals.

Graduate Certificate in Aging and Longevity Studies

The Certificate in Aging and Longevity Studies takes a multidisciplinary approach to gerontology. Its 12 semester hours of coursework is coordinated and sequenced to provide a broad background in aging for students from varied disciplines.
