Social work research in the areas of diversity and social justice include such issues as disability rights; economic inequality; cultural competence; sexual orientation; gender identity; the status of women; and the role of race, class, ethnicity, and cultural diversity in social work education, policy, delivery systems, and outcomes as well as international social work. It also includes work investigating and working to reduce disproportionality in the criminal justice system.
