Fred Newell graduated from the School of Social Work in 2012 and began launching his non-profit organization. Over the last twelve years, his hard work has landed recognition, including being named a 2025 Person to Watch by the Iowa City Press-Citizen.

MSW graduate Melanie Reed returns to the University of Iowa as the new program specialist for the School of Social Work in Des Moines, bringing her extensive experience in student support, medical social work, and mental health advocacy to support the next generation of social workers.

The Center for Social Science Innovation (CSSI) has recently accepted four new participants for its Grant Writing Residency Program (GWRP). The GWRP provides resources and support to researchers preparing to submit grant proposals. The School of Social Work's very own Aislinn Conrad is one of the newly accepted participants and is preparing her grant proposal to be submitted to the National Science Foundation.

Sam Ramsey, an MSW graduate from the University of Iowa, transitioned from engineering to social work to address mental health challenges. Now the College of Law's embedded therapist, she fosters openness and community around mental health.

Audri Lu-Uhlken, a University of Iowa MSW student, empowers Asian Pacific Islander communities through her work at Monsoon, addressing gaps in mental health and advocacy while balancing school, career, and motherhood.
